DATA ART

Dataganisms

We learn something about the city everyday, as we move , explore, and see. I wanted to understand how my experience of Madrid has changed since the day I landed.
Can we represent psychogeographies as organic art forms to encourage continuous exploration of one's city?

The project started during a discussion with friends around use of technology in public spaces and my reading of Marc Auge's - Non Places.

I was curious to explore how city was affecting me. So, I started to keep a track of this interaction. I made a ledger of places I frequented and documented it once a week. Over several weeks, I had this data which showed how I moved and what I remember about the place.

I then used Rhino/Grasshopper to export that data and analyse it in a more exploratory sense. This could help me generate this repository of personal objects that change with time. The poster is a result on this exploration with iso-surfaces.

Below are some shapes generated as I learned new places and forgot older ones. They were used to make objects like necklace and key-rings. These objects connected to geography also serve as objects of encouraging conversations around the city experience.

This is an ongoing project. I would love to have feedback and suggestions on this. I know there is a lot of scope of improvement.
